Mangalore, Apr 12: After having led a protest demanding election ticket for Ivan D'Souza recently, former Mayor K Ashraf on Friday sought popular support for J R Lobo, Congress party's official candidate for Mangalore (South) constituency.
Addressing media persons at a news conference in Mangalore, Mr. Ashraf said that the differences have been put behind and the Congress cadre stands united in favour of Mr. Lobo.
“Whenever elections approach, such differences and formation of groups of admirers of certain leaders pitching for a ticket is all part and parcel of the process. But now that the decision has been made, we all must abide by what the high command wants. We will all work towards making the party's candidate win. The work has already begun in my block”, he said.
Stating that N Yogish Bhat, the four time MLA who Mr. Lobo faces this time, has failed to deliver as a people's representative, Mr. Ashraf said that people need to elect Mr. Lobo to bring back pro-people governance in the region.
“We promised in our MCC election manifesto that we would not increase property tax and water tax and introduce the system of granting license for construction of houses via MCC itself rather than from MUDA. In order to translate our promises into action, we need an MLA who would work in this direction and make the policy makers in the government take note of the demands of our region. Mr. Lobo is the ideal choice for this job. Mr. Bhat has failed in his capacity as an MLA to address the problems of the people”, he said.
