The government had transferred 12 deputy commissioners on the recommendation of the Election Commission (EC).
Challenging the transfer order, the petitioners had moved the CAT, saying that the transfers were illegal and the EC had no authority to recommend for transfers.
They also submitted that the transfers which were done without the approval of the Chief Secretary-appointed committee were illegal.
Shantappa, Vice Chairman of CAT, Bangalore bench, stayed the transfers until further orders.
Twelve IAS officers C Somashekar, D N Krishna, D C Prakash, N S Prasanna Kumar, V P Ikkeri, N Prakash, B Srirama Reddy, S N Nagaraju, F R Jamadhar, Ramegowda, N Jayaram and M Deepu, all deputy commissioners, were transferred.
The CAT rejected the oral plea of the Election Commission to stay its (Tribunal's) order.
IPS transfer
The CAT, hearing a separate petition, stayed the transfer of Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), Bangalore, T G Krishna Bhat, who was also transferred on the recommendation of the Election Commission.
Reacting to the CAT order, Chief Electoral Officer Anil Kumar Jha said that he will decide on the future action after getting the copy of the Tribunal order.
