Mangalore, Apr 15: A rare and shameful incident took place at the Congress North Block office in Surathkal near here after the Congress released its second list of candidates for May 5 Assembly polls declaring DK district Congress Minority Cell president B A Moideen Bava as party's official candidate for Mangalore North Constituency.

A group of supporters of ticket aspirant former MLA Vijayakumar Shetty literally chased away Mr Bava from the office on Sunday evening.
Though there were more than a dozen ticket aspirants in the constituency, three candidates namely Mr Bava, Mr Shetty and Kripa Alva had lobbied hard for the ticket.
The open lobbying for ticket had led to severe animosity between Mr Bava and Mr Shetty with supporters of the two involving in frequent clashes.
The high command's decision to issue ticket to Mr Bava further angered the supporters of Mr Shetty who began alleging that money had changed hands to ensure that party ticket was given to Mr Bava.
However, Mr Bava decided to visit Mr Shetty in the party office and sort out the differences and seek his support for the campaign. The supporters of Mr Shetty, who had gathered outside the office not only prevented Mr Bava from meeting their leader but also chased him away from the office, sources said. Police had to intervene to disperse the mob at around 9:00 p.m.
Shetty to contest as independent?
Meanwhile, supporters of Mr Shetty have reportedly been pressurizing him to file his nomination as an independent candidate.
It is also learnt that the supporters of Mr Shetty have decided to stage a dharna to protest against Congress high command's decision. However, Mr Shetty is yet to make up his mind.
