Officials said that maximum number of candidates filed nomination papers from their respective constituencies in twin districts on sixth day since the start of the process of filing nominations with the issuance of the official notification for the May 5 assembly elections in Karnataka.
BJP candidates from Mangalore North Constituency Krishna J Palemar offered special poojas at Kudroli Sri Gokarnatheshwara temple before filing the nomination paper at MUDA office at 10 a.m.
From Mangalore North Constituency, BJP candidate N Yogish Bhat and Congress candidate J R Lobo filed their nomination papers at MCC in the presence of their supporters.
In Mangalore Constituency, BJP candidate Chandrahas Ullal and SDPI candidate Akram Hasan Ullal filed nomination papers separately in the presence of their supporters at DC office.
In Mulky-Moodbidri constituency Congress candidate Abhaychandra Jain, JD(S) candidate Amarnath Shetty and SDPI candidate Ismaeel Engineer filed their nomination papers at Tahsildar's office in Moodbidri.
Lobo receives Bishop's blessings
Mangalore, Apr 15: J.R. Lobo the Congress candidate from Mangalore South legislative constituency received the blessings from Most Rev. Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza the Bishop of Mangalore on Monday morning just before filing the nomination for state elections.
'The primary duty of religious leaders and priests is to pray for the good of the society, state, nation and especially its leaders. J.R. Lobo being the candidate for the coming elections for the Mangalore South constituency, we pray for God's blessings on him and wish him all the success' said Bishop of Mangalore after invoking Gods blessings on him and his supporters as well as co-workers.
On the occasion, Fr J.B. Crasta the secretary of the laity commission led the prayer service. Melwyn P. Noronha, Roy Castelino, Stany Alvares and other leaders were present on the occasion. Fr William Menezes the PRO of the Diocese of Mangalore, Fr Henry Sequeira the Chancellor, Fr Maxim Noronha the Procurator, Fr Valerian Menezes, Fr Denis D'Souza, Fr Reethesh Rodrigues, Pastor Alwyn Culaco and others were present.
Former MCC Commissioner J R Lobo has been given the ticket to contest from Mangalore South and will be filing the nomination today going in a procession of party workers, supporters and well wishers. He is known to be simple, intelligent, just and with lots administrative experience and capacities. As former KAS officer he has worked as Thahashildhar of Koppa, Somavarpete and Puttur, Assistant Director of Food and Civil supplies of undivided South Kanara, Joint Project Director of KUDSEMP etc. As MCC Commissioner he had animated infrastructural developments of the city.
