Nursing is a profession which demands its practitioners to acquire humane qualities so that patients are served well, Dr. Chandramohan said, while advising graduating nursing students to empathise with patients rather than sympathise with them.
Recalling the contribution of Florence Nightingale who gave an all new dimension to the profession of nursing, Dr. Chandramohan said that she must be a role model for all nursing students across the globe.
“The injured soldiers of the Cremian war would wait for her to visit them. She gave them hope at a time when they thought their end was near. Nursing profession was not considered noble then and she had to face opposition from her parents for taking up this profession. Unfortunately, even today nursing is not considered as noble a profession as it ought to be considered”, Dr. Chandramohan opined.
