It is learnt that Mr Aslam, was also a ticket aspirant from the same constituency, was not invited to a meeting convened by JD(S) district president MB Sadashiva to finalize the candidate. However, supporters of Mr Aslam reportedly interrupt the meeting and took Sadashiva to task for denying ticket their leader.
Police also had to intervene and evict the supporters of Mr Aslam, when they began questioning Mr Chengappa's candidature.
Meanwhile, Mr Aslam made it clear that he would not support Mr Chengappa at any cost. “I will openly support Congress candidates in all constituencies in the district,” he said.
He said that though JD(S) state president HD Kumaraswamy had finalized his candidature from Mangalore South Constituency, Mr Sadashiva and former minister Amarnath Shetty hatched a conspiracy to deny him ticket.
