He was addressing the party workers' convention organized at B C Road, after filing his nomination on Wednesday.
“Rajesh Naik has been fielded against me in Bantwal by the BJP. However, from an outset he looks like a scapegoat of the Sangha Parivar,” mocked Mr Rai adding that the election of 2013 will be an opportunity to give an apt reply for the ones who have been behind all conspiracies hatched and executed to spoil the social fabric of the region.
“As far as Bantwal constituency is concerned, the BJP has a factory here to churn out lies and false allegations. They feel that they can win the elections by sheer money power. This is not possible, because the voters here are well aware and awakened.
The BJP will get an apt reply from the voters on May 5,” he said adding that weak secular parties are weakening the very principle of secularism. Hence voters should vote for a strong secular party like the Congress.
Mr Rai said that voters who wished to bring the BJP to power five years ago are repenting over their decision.
However, towards the end, Mr Rai who became sentimental said that he belongs to the people. “I have lived and grown with you all. Unlike other ministers neither have I got any other business nor have amassed wealth. My wealth is the support of my party workers,” he said.
