“We will implement that report when we come to power. The BJP led state government's corruption has tainted the image of Karnataka across the globe. It was a tenure where the share market of MLAs increased owing to the corruption transactions that took place”, he said.
Alleging the BJP government of taking the state on a downward spiral in terms of development, Mr. Moily said that in the last 6 years, the state has accumulated a debt of Rs. 1.18 lakh crore. Although it claimed that an additional 10,000 MW power generation would be added to the state's electricity production, not a single unit has been added, he said. The BJP government took illogical decisions in the education sector, Mr. Moily said, criticizing its decision to granting deemed university status to 31 institutions. “Some of those universities do not even run a proper first grade college. What more can you expect when someone like C T Ravi who has no idea what education is all about, is made an Education Minister? They have completely devalued the education system in the state”, Mr. Moily said.
Mangalore will be self sufficient in power
The Union Minister said on the occasion that very soon Mangalore will be self sufficient in power, thanks to multiple sources of gas supplies.
“We have arranged for a gas pipeline between Ratnagiri and Bangalore. I have already offered Rs. 100 crores to the state government. The pipeline will be diverted via Chitradurga and brought to Mangalore within three months. An L&G terminal will come here where gas will be brought from Mozambique in Africa. If gas supply is achieved as planned, there would be no need of thermal power plants. We can fulfill cent per cent of our power needs and in fact produce surplus power”, Mr. Moily said.
