Mangalore, Apr 19: Passing aspersions at the BJP's election manifesto and terming it as a bunch of lies, senior Congress leader B Janardhan Poojary has opined that none of the points mentioned in the manifesto will be taken up for implementation by the BJP if voted to power.
Addressing media persons at a news conference in Mangalore on Friday, Mr. Poojary said that the BJP led state government did not keep its promises made in its last election manifesto and its proposals in the election manifesto released today will also be left as it is.
“They have said in their manifesto that they will take the state towards development while in fact they have already destroyed it in their five year term. They said they will give 24 hour electricity but we all are aware as to how many hours of power we are receiving today. They said they will not increase tax but immediately after coming to power, they imposed the self assessment tax. How many houses did they construct for the poor? Whatever they have constructed was by utilising center's funds”, Mr. Poojary said adding that despite promising in the manifesto to provide rice to the poor at Rs 1 per kg, the BJP will never implement the proposal.
“The Congress party on the other hand had thought about it well in advance and will implement the same after coming to power,” he claimed.
On a query about the Congress welcoming people who have in the past spoken ill about the party and party leaders, Mr. Poojary said that it is the Congress culture to welcome people irrespective of their past.
“Veerendra Patil spoke ill of Indira Gandhi but she not only welcomed him to the party but also gave him a ministerial berth. Bangarappa had done the same but he was also welcomed. After leaving the Congress, people realize that it was their folly and come back to the party. Kaup leader (Vasanth Salian) will also come back one day”, Mr. Poojary said.
