Shedding light on the poll preparations, Mr D'Souza said that campaigning has already begun in all booths in the district and observers have already been named for each block. Party activists have begun door-to-door campaigning from today. A total of three rounds of door-to-door campaigning will be undertaken. The party's election manifesto will be released on Monday following which two rounds of door-to-door campaigning will be held, Mr. D'Souza said.
Union Minister M Veerappa Moily has completed one round of campaigning in all Assembly constituencies of the district. Senior leader Oscar Fernandes will arrive in Mangalore today and engage himself in campaigning in different parts of the district over the next three days, Mr. D'Souza informed.
Rubbishing BJP's claims that rebellion in Congress party will benefit the saffron party, Mr. D'Souza said that all internal differences have been sorted out.
“Elders in the party have spoken to aspirants who could not get tickets and convinced them of a role in the party and better opportunities in the future. We have put aside our differences and are working for the party in unison. There is no doubts over the Congress sweeping all the eight constituencies in the district this time. It is the BJP which needs to look after differences. They won the 2008 elections with B S Yeddyurappa and today their manifesto features Jagadish Shettar. It is their party which has now got divided into three”, Mr. D'Souza said.
Commenting on BJP's election manifesto, Mr. D'Souza said that its proposal to provide rice to poor at Re.1 per kg is unreliable. “They had promised rice at Rs.2 per kg last time but could not fulfill it. How are people supposed to believe them on Re.1 this time?” he questioned.
When asked about the party's stand on re-inducting M G Hegde into Congress, Ibrahim Kodijal, Interim District President of the party refused to comment and said that a decision would be taken in this regard following consultation with state leadership.
