Election officers recently found candidates issuing coupons to voters to avail of free liquor, clothes, ration and meat. Recently, such coupons were found in a liquor shop at Adugodi.
The Hebbal election officer appealed to voters that issuing coupons for free liquor, ration and things of daily needs was illegal and anyone found issuing or accepting them would be liable for punishment. The poll officer also warned self-help groups not to ask anyone to cast vote to a party or a candidate bribing voters. Any group doing so would be liable to disciplinary action.
However, the bootleggers seem undeterred by these cautions. A huge cache of illicit liquor was seized at Hebbal from a Maruti van on April 21.
