“Over the last five years, the BJP was busy untangling the knots of maladministration, in fights, scandals etc. In this quest, the welfare of people and development of the state has taken a beating. Now, the people of Karnataka are demanding for stable government and during my interaction with the voters in Karnataka, I have felt a strong vibe favouring the Congress,” he said addressing a news conference at party's office in Mangalore.
Noticing the political episodes unfurling at the national level, Mr Chandy said that the nation is on the brink of elections and hence winning Karnataka polls is important.
“There are Commonwealth games, 2G scam and other occurrences, which have dented the image of the Congress. But, what is important is the stand that the party took against the guilty. It has never protected the guilty, instead the party, without fearing the consequences has taken legal action against them. Hence some of the central ministers are behind the bars,” he said.
Rejecting the belief that the SDPI candidates may cause impediments to the victory of the Congress candidates in some constituencies, Mr Chandy said that though the SDPI has strong hold in some pockets, it is far from getting the verdict of the people in its favour.
Playing down the hype the meeting of Kerala Labour Minister Shibu Baby John and Gujarat CM Narenra Modi had created, Mr Chandy said that while Mr John was in Gujarat to visit an Institute in Ahmedabad, he happened to meet the CM.
On a query if National Investigation Agency will probe into arrests of several youth in connection to terror activities, in Kannur, Mr Chandy said that it is left up to the NIA if it wants to probe the same or not. “We will not object if it decides to probe into the matter,” he said.
Earlier, he took part in an interaction with students at Sahodaya hallat Balmatta.
Congress leaders P T Thomas, Ibrahim Kodijal among others were present.
