In his complaint to the Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police, he said that the gang blocked their way and approached him on the pretext of requesting to allow them to distribute election propaganda. Suspicious of their behaviour, Mr Lolaksha approached the manager of the lodge to enquire about the outsiders and recorded their movements through CCTV cameras fixed in the building.
Addressing the press conference, he said that having received information much later that the unknown persons were members of a notorious gang of criminals, he had lodged a complaint with the Bantwal Circle Inspector requesting that they be taken into custody to enquire about their intention.
“I will not call them criminals, for their intention is not known to us. However, this incident must be probed, and they must be brought to book if necessary,” he said.
He further said that according to him, it was an instance of pre-planned attempt to attack him. “I have no known foes; hence this must be a politically-motivated attempt. I do not face opposition from any political parties except the two major ones i.e. the Congress and BJP. However, I will not name political party for this attempt. Only police investigation will reveal the truth,” he stressed.
He also stated that he had handed over the CCTV footage to the police, but did not want it to be telecasted as it would alert the miscreants and hinder their swift identification.
