While the chief election officer recommended webcasting of polls from voting centres in five booths in each constituency in the state, Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada Harsh Gupta has gone in for webcasting from over 20 polling stations in each of the eight Assembly constituencies.
Students from various engineering institutions have been roped in for the webcasting in around 390 polling stations across the district.
Webcasting has been extended to all the 208 polling stations in the constituency of Mangalore City South. Apart from them, 30 polling stations in Belthangady constituency, 27 in Moodbidri, 26 in Mangalore City North, 23 in Mangalore, 17 in Bantwal, 23 in Puttur and 35 polling stations in Sullia have webcasting services extended to them, thanks to a move by the Deputy Commissioner.
Along with bringing transparency in the voting process at polling stations, the innovative concept of webcasting technology and efforts by students to offer 'live' webcasting from the stations will tremendously help the electoral process of the country. People can watch the proceedings at selected polling stations from anywhere, said Harsh Gupta.
