Addressing media persons at a news conference in Mangalore on Monday, Mr. Kodijal said that based on the inputs gathered from exit polls, media surveys and reports submitted by party observers, the Congress is confident of bagging at least 125 seats in the state Assembly including all eight constituencies of Dakshina Kannada district.
Snubbing the SDPI and others parties which tried their level best to spread negative opinion of the Congress among the people, Mr. Kodijal said that voters have proved that they are intelligent enough to judge what is right.
“They carried out false propaganda against our candidates. But people are intelligent enough. Especially the minority voters realize the value of voting for the Congress. They are aware that to keep the BJP at bay, they cannot afford to cast their votes to parties other than the Congress. And why would they? The Congress has time and again stood for the minorities, SC/STs and the OBCs. They realize that communal harmony will prevail in the region only if the Congress comes to power”, Mr. Kodijal said.
When asked about a number of Muslim candidates contesting against U T Khader in Mangalore (Ullal) constituency and whether it would dampen Mr. Khader's chances, Mr. Kodijal said that the incumbent MLA has enough popular support to take him through.
“He is loved not just by Muslims but Hindus and everyone else. Muslim candidates contesting against him will not make any difference. People are aware that he has worked with dedication without governed by time or other factors”, he said.
The interim President also mentioned that the increased percentage in voter turnout this time will also prove beneficial for the Congress.
