In a press conference during the party's election campaign, Ramanath Rai openly proclaimed that his fight was not against Rajesh Naik but against Prabhakar Bhat. Picking up the bait, BJP district president Padmanabha Kottary reacted to this by stating that Mr Rai had lost his mind, and such a claim by him was condemnable.
In response to this, Mr Rai retorted saying that Mr Kottary was an experienced politician, however he (Rai) would have committed suicide if he were in the same situation as the latter. Neither Mr Kottary nor the BJP camp reacted to Mr Rai's statement and the BJP has taken the heavyweight's remarks as a challenge.
It is an open secret within the political sphere that if Rajesh Naik loses in the elections, it is the Sangh Parivar that faces defeat. Although brought up in the Sangh Parivar, Rajesh Naik is a simple person. Despite these plus points, there have been attempts to defeat him. If the discontented members within BJP decide to rebel, the results will have to be faced by the Parivar. This responsibility is upto Kalladka high-command.
Who emerges victorious in this stand-off remains to be seen after the counting on Wednesday.
