How 'UPSC rank holder' betrayed his parents

May 14, 2013

Bangalore, May 14: A closer examination of the documents in possession of Manjunath's family relating to UPSC exams clearly shows that Manjunath had fudged them. He committed suicide on Friday, after telling his family that UPSC?had made a mistake in announcing his results.

The copy of the hall ticket for Civil Service (Prelims) Examination, that UPSC too has admitted Manjunath attended, shows his roll number as 538745.

However, UPSC has clarified that the roll number allotted to him was 538950. The family only has a copy of the document, which has allegedly been fudged by Manjunath, changing the roll number from 538950 to 538745. Manjunath is suspected to have burnt the original document at the place of his death in Napoklu.

A copy of the hall ticket given to Manjunath by UPSC for the mains exams lets the cat out of the bag. A closer examination of this document, comparing it with the fudged prelims hall ticket of Manjunath, helps spot the differences.

The document number of both the documents (a computer generated number) is the same – CSP/539469/ 11217196859/047/1852012, which is impossible if the two are two separate documents. This clearly shows that Manjunath used his prelims hall ticket as a template and fudged it to produce a hall ticket for the mains exams. It is clear that Manjunath has changed the date and title of the examination in English and make it look like that of the Mains Examination.

He has changed the date of Mains examination as October 5, 2012 and also changed the title to 'You are admitted to the Civil Service (Main) Examination, 2012'. However the UPSC uses two languages – English and Hindi. In the title in Hindi - 'aapki civil seva (prathamik) pareeksha' in the hall ticket of prelims examination, he has erased the word prathamik, but the space is left blank.

Also, in English, the date of examination has been changed to October 5, 2012. But, the line above in Hindi says: 'Pareekshaa kii taareekh: May 20, 2012,' (same as in the prelims hall ticket). Also, Manjunath has changed the centre name and put Vishveshwarapuram College of Arts and Commerce, Koramangala. However, the above mentioned college is on K R Road and not in Koramangala. The address given is fake. He has also forged the signatures of the invigilators at the examination centre.

Thus, it is very clear that Manjunath V Y fudged all records to show that he had passed the civil service exams with a rank.

Manjunath's father is a broken man

Yadavamurthy, father of Manjunath, is a broken man today. He was convinced that his son had fudged the documents, when pointed out all the instances in the set of documents that he held dear and which he believed would help him get justice for his 'wronged' son.

Yadavamurthy broke down and said he hoped against hope that his son had cleared the exams and now all that was shattered. He said, till now, he had a pride that he was fighting for justice for his son wronged by the system. But now, he feels cheated and let down by his son.

He said he was intrigued as to why his son committed suicide for such a small discrepancy in the result and now he had a clear answer to his nagging doubt.

“If he was truthful, he would have fought it out. He cheated me, his mother and himself above all. He couldn't bear his mask being brought down. He is a coward who couldn't face the truth,” he said.

He recounted how he raised a loan of Rs 30,000 to take his son to Delhi, elated that his son was called for the interview. He said that though he did not get a call letter for the interview, Manjunath told his parents that he had called up the UPSC in New Delhi and explained the problem.

“Manjunath assured us that a senior official in UPSC had asked him to come to Delhi as his roll number was in the result sheet”.

Yadavamurthy said they reached New Delhi on the afternoon of April 14 and the next day, he accompanied his son to the UPSC office, where his son inquired with the Facilities department. He told them that his roll number was 538745 and he had not got the call letter. The official after cross-verifying the number said the scheduled interview was the next day and he could come and attend it with a set of his original documents.

On the afternoon of April 16, Manjunath went to the UPSC office with his parents. Yadavamurthy said while they were seated in the lobby of the Facilities department, Manjunath went in for the interview and turned up after about half-an-hour.

Yadavamurthy recounted that his son was confident and said that he had done well in the interview. The father now rues that his son cheated him to the hilt.

Bengaluru: In a shocking revelation, a former member of Hassan Zilla Panchayat (ZP) has accused incumbent JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna of raping her multiple times over three years and videographing the alleged crime.

A case was registered by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) based on the statement by the 44-year-old survivor on Wednesday, May 1.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the woman claimed that when she was a ZP member she used to visit the MLAs and MPs for various development works.

In one such instance in 2021, she met Prajwal seeking his help to get hostel seats for some female students at a local college. The woman, in her statement, said that since the MP was busy, she was asked to meet him the next day.

“The following day I visited the MP at his office and the MP's quarters in Hassan. The staff present there told me to wait on the first floor as there were many others in the hall. Prajwal spoke to some of the women waiting there, spoke with them and sent them off until I was the only one left,” the woman alleged.

As per the survivor, the MP then called her inside a room and she obliged.

“He held my hand, pulled me inside and locked the door. When I asked him why was he closing the door, he told me nothing would happen and made me sit on the bed. He said my husband should talk less and warned me of the consequences. He also said that because of my husband, his mother, Bhavani Revanna, missed the MLA ticket. He told me that if my husband wants to grow politically, I should listen to him [Prajwal],” the woman alleged.

Next, Prajwal allegedly told the woman to lie down on the bed and undress. When the woman refused and said that she would shout, Prajwal allegedly threatened her that he had a gun and warned of dire consequences for her and her husband.

The woman alleged that Prajwal took out his mobile phone and then raped her.

“He raped me and sexually assaulted me and recorded the act on his mobile phone,” the woman alleged. “He threatened to leak the video if I ever spoke about it and told me to be there whenever he wanted. After that, he used to video call me frequently, ask me to be naked during the call and raped me in multiple instances.”

The woman claimed that she was scared and did not make the incident public and chose to come forward after she learnt of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) set up by the Karnataka government to probe the alleged Hassan sex scandal.

A case was registered under Sections 376(2)(n) (commits rape repeatedly on the same woman), 506 (criminal intimidation), 354A(1)(physical contact and advances involving unwelcome and explicit sexual overtures), 354B (assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to disrobe) and 354C (voyeurism) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 66E (violation of privacy) of the Information Technology (IT) Act.

Prajwal is also accused in a sexual harassment case along with his father, Holenarasipur MLA HD Revanna, registered at the Holenarasipur police station in Hassan on April 28.

Bengaluru: In a fresh development in the alleged Hassan sex abuse case, JD(S) MLA H D Revanna, who was accused of sexually harassing his house help, has been booked for kidnapping a victim allegedly sexually assaulted by his son, Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna. The case was filed late Thursday evening at the KR Nagar police station in Mysuru.

The 20-year-old complainant from KR Nagara accused one Sathish Babanna of taking his mother away forcibly and keeping her in an unknown location at the behest of Revanna.

As per the FIR, Revanna has been named as accused 1 while Babanna was accused 2. The duo were booked under IPC Sections 364A (kidnapping for ransom), 365 (kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine a person) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention).

The complainant claimed that his mother, whose name and age were not revealed, had worked as a help in Revanna’s house and farm in Holenarasipura for six years, quit the job three years ago and returned to KR Nagara. She then worked for daily wages.

“Nearly three to four days before the Lok Sabha election, Sathish Babanna, who is known to us and hailed from our native place, took my mother to Holenarasipura after saying that Bhavani Revanna, the wife of MLA Revanna, had asked for her,” the complainant alleged, adding that Babanna dropped her back on the day of the polls.

Babanna allegedly told the victim’s mother and father to remain silent and evade the police if they came looking for them and to inform him of the developments.

On April 29, at around 9 pm, when the complainant was home, the suspect Babanna arrived, told the complainant’s mother that Revanna had asked for her and took her away on his motorcycle. The complainant claimed that he wasn’t aware of where Babanna took his mother and he had told him that if the police found her, a case would be registered and they would all go to jail.

On May 1, two of the complainant’s relatives called him on the phone and told him that there was a video of his mother being sexually assaulted by Prajwal and that it was a huge case, the FIR noted. He was also informed by his two friends of his "mother's videos being circulated".

When he asked Babanna later that night, he was allegedly told that there was a photo of his mother standing with a stick when Prajwal had quarrelled with someone earlier and an FIR had been registered. Babanna told the complainant that his mother would have to be released on bail, the FIR noted.

“Babanna told me not to speak on the matter on my phone and asked me to talk from a different phone,” he said, seeking action from the police.

The case has been transferred to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) set up to probe the Hassan sex scandal as per the government order.

Guwahati: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday condemned the alleged sexual abuse of women involving Lok Sabha MP Prajwal Revanna, asserting that the BJP will not tolerate any insult to women.

Revanna (33) is the BJP-JD(S) alliance candidate for Hassan Lok Sabha constituency, which went to polls on April 26.

Earlier in the day, the JD(S) suspended Revanna from the party with immediate effect.

“The issue regarding Revanna that has been reported in the media is very hurtful and cannot be tolerated in any way,” Shah told a press conference here.

“The BJP’s stand is very clear; we will not tolerate any insult to ‘matri aur nari shakti’ (women empowerment),” he asserted.

Some explicit video clips allegedly involving Prajwal Revanna, the grandson of former prime minister H D Deve Gowda, were circulated in Hassan over the last few days.

The home minister said Congress has been alleging that an NDA partner’s candidate is involved in the incident, “but I just want to ask a small question - whose government is there in that state (Karnataka)?”

“The Congress is in power in Karnataka, and this matter must have come to their attention. Why has it not taken any action on it so far? We cannot take any action as law and order is a state issue,” Shah said.
