Kasargod, May 15: The police on Monday seized 52 kg of ganja from a vehicle and arrested two youth on charge of smuggling the narcotic substance into the district.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team led by Kasaragod Circle Inspector C.K. Sunil Kumar and Vidyanagar station Sub-Inspector T. Uthamdas waylaid a Tata Sumo vehicle at Bevinja locality on the national highway around 8 p.m. on the day and seized the ganja concealed in a plastic case inside the vehicle, the police said.
The arrested were identified as K.A. Nawaz, 32, driver of the vehicle and a native of Ponkunnam in Kottayam district, and C.H. Saleem of Kunnumkai, near Neeleswaram, here.
The duo confessed to the police that the ganja was being taken to Uppala in the district.
The arrested have been remanded in judicial custody for two weeks.
