Bangalore, May 19: “Behave responsibly and discharge your duties without violating the rule book.” This was the advice Chief Minister Siddaramaiah gave to his council of ministers at the first meeting held on Saturday.
Soon after 28 ministers took oath at the Raj Bhavan, Siddaramaiah held an informal Cabinet meeting at the Vidhana Soudha. There was no official agenda set for the meeting. The Chief Minister made use of the occasion to give some advice to his colleagues. He gave certain tips to the first-time ministers, especially those in the minister of State rank, on running the administration.
Siddaramaiah is learnt to have said that the ministers should work within the ambit of law and not violate the rule book at any cost.
The ministers should work hard and bring good name to the party government. One should be extra-cautious while issuing statements to the media, he added.
People have high hopes on the Congress government. “We should learn from mistakes committed by the previous government. People rejected the previous government because of the rampant misuse of power. You (ministers) should utilise this opportunity to grow as leaders,” he stated.
The Chief Minister is learnt to have asked the junior ministers to conduct review meetings of their respective department regularly and ensure speedy clearance of files.
Kagodu will be Speaker
Speaking to reporters, Siddaramaiah said Sagar MLA?Kagodu Thimmappa has agreed to take up the Speaker's post.
“He has not opposed it. It is only the creation of the media. He has agreed to be the Speaker as per the direction of the party high command,” he added.
On the looming drinking water crisis in Bangalore and Mysore cities, Siddaramaiah said the government has taken all necessary steps to ensure supply of drinking water. A task force involving officials of the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board and the Water Resources department has been set up.
The task force will monitor the availability of water in the reservoirs and ensure proper supply, he added.
