Mangalore, May 19: All 121 elected Congress MLAs including newly sworn in ministers should now strengthen the hand of the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah by extending all kinds of support him, said Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas M Veerappa Moily.

Addressing media persons during his Mangalore visit on Sunday, he urged the minister aspirants, who failed to get berth during Saturday's cabinet expansion, not to feel neglected as there will be another round of cabinet expansion in the near future.

“It is not time to exert pressure on Chief Minister and stage protest for being denied of ministerial berth. If minister-aspirant MLAs continue protest, then there will be no difference between our party and BJP, which was rejected by people of Karnataka,” he warned.

Mr Moily, who represents Chikkaballapura as M P, also said that his Lok Sabha constituency also has been denied of representation in recent Karnataka cabinet expansion. “I have to speak to the CM and party High Command in this regard,” he added.

Protests

It is worth mentioning here that the non-inclusion of D.K. Shivakumar, Kagodu Thimmappa, A.B. Maalakaraddy and A. Manju in the Congress Ministry on Saturday triggered protests in their Assembly constituencies.

Mr. Shivakumar's supporters, numbering around 3,000, who came from Kanakapura staged a protest outside the residence of the former External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna at Sadashivanagar here. Mr. Krishna was not in the house and his wife Prema Krishna persuaded them not to get disheartened as party president Sonia Gandhi was likely to speak to Mr. Shivakumar.

One person among the mob doused himself with kerosene, but the timely police intervention prevented any untoward incident.

Supporters of Mr. Thimmappa in Shimoga, A. Manju in Hassan, and Dr. Maalakaraddy in Yadgir town also staged protests.

In Mysore, supporters of Narasimharaja MLA Tanveer Sait staged a dharna in front of Mahatma Gandhi bust on Vani Vilas Road. One of them allegedly attempted suicide by dousing himself with kerosene, but it was foiled, and the police took the protester, identified as Feroze Khan, into custody.

Mangaluru, Dec 20: City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy has issued a high-alert warning to vehicle owners regarding a surge in cyber fraud targeting those looking to pay traffic violation fines. Fraudsters are reportedly exploiting recent government discount schemes on traffic penalties to deceive citizens.

The Scam: How Fraudsters Strike

Criminals are using SMS, WhatsApp, and social media to circulate suspicious links and APK files (Android application packages). They claim these apps allow users to pay e-challans at a discount.

•    Device Hacking: Downloading these unauthorized apps gives hackers full access to the victim's smartphone.

•    Financial Theft: Once the phone is compromised, fraudsters intercept OTPs and personal data to drain bank accounts.

•    Phishing Sites: Fake websites mimicking official portals are also being used to harvest banking credentials.

Already, two residents within Mangaluru city limits have reported significant financial losses after falling victim to these fraudulent apps.

Mangaluru police have arrested a 27-year-old NRI on his return from Saudi Arabia in connection with an Instagram post allegedly containing derogatory and provocative remarks about the Hindu religion, officials said on Monday.

The accused, Abdul Khader Nehad, a resident of Ulaibettu in Mangaluru, was working in Saudi Arabia when the post was uploaded, police said.

A suo motu case was registered at the Bajpe police station on October 11 after an allegedly offensive post circulated from the Instagram account ‘team_sdpi_2025’. Police said the content was flagged for being provocative and derogatory in nature.

During the investigation, technical analysis traced the Instagram post to Nehad, who was residing abroad at the time, a senior police officer said. Based on these findings, a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued against him.

On December 14, Nehad arrived from Saudi Arabia at Calicut International Airport in Kerala, where he was taken into custody on arrival. Police said further investigation is underway.
