In Dakshina Kannada district, if one talks of an MLA who has always lived amidst the people, instantly the name of U T Khader is taken without second thought. This young leader has carved a place for himself among the people living in his constituency. Now that he has become the Minister for Health and Family Welfare, he belongs to the state and not just his constituency.
He has the responsibility to look into the conditions of the hospitals in the entire state and chalk out plans to upgrade them all and keep them in good shape.
Probably, Khader can start from his own constituency, is what most people in the region think. Ullal hospital is crying for help. A hospital which once catered to all health requirements of the people is today confined only to malaria blood tests. The local residents say that Mr Khader can start his work as health minister by changing the face of Ullal hospital.
People of the region are looking at Khader with hopes that with increased power in hands, he might work harder to find permanent solution for sea erosion problem and also to complete the long standing Thokkottu railway station work.
Towns of Ullal, Thokkottu, Deralakatte and Someshwara are growing fast. The population in these areas is growing and with this even the density of vehicles on the roads too have increased. This has been a reason for traffic jams and accidents. As a solution to this, the local residents feel that developing Kotepura road can be of great help. A demand for a bridge in Kotepura area is three decades old and the talks of building a bridge here was heard even when Janardhan Poojary was a central minister. When Bharatlal Meena was the Deputy Commissioner, a blueprint for the bridge was also designed. Unfortunately, the project never took off.
Since a MLA representing Ullal has become a minister for the first time, the people are pinning hopes that this time most of their pending demands will be fulfilled.
