The nominated members are selected by the MLAs representing the areas which come under MCC limits. In this manner entire Mangalore South constituency represented by J R Lobo comes under MCC limits, 50 per cent of Mangalore North constituency represented by Moideen Bava and parts of Mangalore constituency represented by U T Khader come under MCC limits. While Lobo and Bava get to nominate two each, Khader will nominate one.
According to sources, U T Khader is likely to nominate the name of Block Congress President Nagendra Kumar. Mr Lobo is said to have decided on the names of Congress loyalists T K Sudhir and Nawaz, two members who have identified themselves as grassroots workers. In any case an intense competition within Congress house cannot be ruled out.
However, the competition is the most in Moideen Bava's constituency. It is said that names of six persons have been finalized from the bunch of aspirants. The list of aspirants mainly includes the names of those members who were denied ticket during the ULB polls but opted not to contest as rebel candidates.
Ramachandra Shetty Kulai, Pramodh Bhandary, Anand Amin, Padmanabha Shetty are some of the names that are making rounds. There are demands that one seat for nominated member must be given to Govardhan Shettigar, a senior congress member.
The names of the aspirants are more because it is a cake walk without the hassles of contesting the elections.
