According to the data available, over the last two to three months over 15 young girls have gone missing and till date there has been no slightest of clue about their whereabouts.
While the cases are only increasing in Kasargod and Manjeshwara station limits, there are voices of contempt heard against the way the police have been handling those cases. Many say that the lack of manpower in the department itself is the reason for such poor performance. At one point of time, over ten girls went missing in Kasargod, Manjeshwara and Kumble station limits. However, the police could track down only three missing girls.
Sources say that the numbers available with the police department can be called a tip of the iceberg because there are several girls who go missing but parents hesitate to lodge a complaint fearing the consequences.
On May 14, a 21-year old girl named Swapna went missing from Jodukallu village. She has not been traced by the police till date. The locals feel that the girl has been kidnapped. The local unit of Vishwa Hindu Parishat did take up the issue and stage a protest outside Kumble police station and warned the cops of intensifying the protest if Swapna was not found at the earliest.
It is a known fact that several young girls are being lured in the name of love and marriage.
The demand for an in depth investigation into these missing cases is gaining momentum in the region.
