Terming the BJP's defeat in the legislative Assembly polls as unexpected one, Mr Ravi said that the defeat is a major setback to the process of developing the state.
Addressing press conference here on Friday, he said that division of votes, anti-BPJ lobby and few incidents at the state level led to the defeat of the BJP. He however said that some cases, they were punished for mistakes which were not committed by them. In the future, the party will rectify its mistakes and hope to win the next elections, he said.
Lashing at the Congress-led government, he said that the BJP will oppose the Karnataka Panchayat Raj (Amendment) Bill 2013, which makes gram panchayat presidents and members accountable to hold gram sabha and ward committee meetings mandatorily, failing which they will be disqualified.
It is not fair on part of the government to make GP presidents and members responsible for holding gram sabha and ward committee meetings. There are possibilities of misusing the rules. Since many elected members in gram panchayats are unaware of the rules, the Congress may choose to wrongly disqualify elected representatives of other parties, he said, adding that panchayat development officers also should be made accountable in this regard.
He said that BJP members would strongly oppose the Bill when it comes up in the Legislative Council.
Modi suitable to become PM
On national politics, he said that BJP is the only alternative in the nation. Chief Minister of Gujarat Narendra Modi is the only suitable candidate for the post of Prime Minister as he is a good leader who has the capacity to take the country forward, he said.
The party elections to select office bearers for various committees of the BJP at the regional and district level are scheduled from June 15, informed Mr Ravi.
