Bangalore, Jun 17: A dentist allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at her Vijaynagar house here on Sunday.

Sumathi M H, 28, married Mohindar N, a manager at a private firm, four years ago and the couple have a two-year-old daughter Tejika. They resided with Mohindar's parents on 9th main road, Vijaynagar, said the police.

On Sunday, Sumathi wanted her husband to accompany her to a family get-together of one of her relatives at Chennasandra. She became upset when her husband reportedly refused to go with her and instead went to attend a religious function at an acquaintance's house. A “humiliated” Sumathi went upstairs and hanged herself from a ceiling fan using a veil around 11:15 am.

After sometime, Nagaraj, Sumathi's father-in-law, went upstairs and found her hanging. Immediately, he called up his son and rushed Sumathi to a private hospital where she was declared dead, police added.

Suvarnavathi, Sumathi's mother and vice-president of Santhekasagere gram panchayat in Mandya district, however, told Deccan Herald that her daughter did not commit suicide as she was extremely bold and hated those committing such acts.

“The entire incident is suspicious as we were expecting the couple to attend the family get-together. Sumathi's in-laws are responsible for her death. They cooked up the suicide theory to hush up their mistakes. They harassed her continuously and ended her life,” she alleged. “They restricted my daughter from making calls and exercised control over her every act. They never gave her freedom,” she said.

Mohindar and his mother, Sulochana, however, refuted the allegations. “They are making false and baseless allegations as I looked after my wife with utmost care during the last four years.?I never imagined that she would commit such an act. I paid the fees of her MDS course in two installments and bought her a new two-wheeler to attend the classes,” Mohindar said.

“We were happily married, but there used to be heated moments once a while which are inseparable aspects of a married life. We neither harassed her nor demanded any dowry,” he claimed. “We had planned to go to her family relative's get-together. She told me that she would be ready after I returned home after attending a pooja ritual.?She called me at 11 am asking if I reached the venue.?I told her that I

would return home soon.?I got a call from my father 15 minutes later asking me to rush back immediately. I was shocked to see her hanging,” he added.

Neighbours described the family as decent and dignified. “Sumathi was short-tempered and would react violently for silly things. Mohindar has a good name in the locality and is not the one who would harass his wife,” a neighbour, Venkatesh Babu T C, said.

The only daughter of Suvarnavathi and Hombalaiah, a state government employee, of?Mandya, Sumathi completed BDA from Dayananda Sagar College and had got government seat in MDS at KIMS. The MDS classes were to begin on Monday.

The police have registered a case under Section 306 (abetment of suicide) of the IPC based on Hombalaiah's complaint and said they would soon arrest Mohindar.?They also clarified that there was no death note.

Bengaluru, May 14: JD(S) leader HD Revanna has been released from Parappana Agrahara Jail today, on May 14 after he was granted conditional bail.

He was granted a conditional bail yesterday by a Bengaluru court in connection with a kidnapping case linked to sexual abuse allegation against him and his son Prajwal.

Revanna was arrested on May 4 by Special Investigative Team (SIT) officials in a kidnapping case registered against him at KR Nagar police station in the city. The case is linked to his son and Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna’s mega sex scam.

Representing the JD(S) MLA from Holenarsipura, he termed this case a "political conspiracy" against him.

A SIT, constituted by the Karnataka government, is probing the alleged sexual abuse against against HD Revanna and his son Prajwal Revanna.

Prajwal Revanna, the incumbent MP, is seeking another term from Hassan Lok Sabha constituency. The voting for the seat took place on April 26.

Earlier, JD (S) chief HD Kumaraswamy alleged that Karnataka government does not want a fair inquiry.

"They are misusing the office. Nothing is going to happen ultimately. They wanted character assassination of HD Revanna and for that reason, they are using their office," Kumaraswamy told ANI.

Meeting Karnataka Governor Tawara Chanda Gehlot on May 9, a delegation of the Janata Dal (Secular) submitted a memorandum and urged Gehlot to recommend a CBI probe.

Prajwal sill absconding

The JD(S) MP, Prajwal, fled to Germany after Karnataka State Commission for Women Nagalakshmi Chowdhary wrote to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah seeking an investigation into over obscene videos of Prajwal Revanna allegedly sexually abusing several women. He has also skipped summons issued by the SIT to appear before it.

The ‘obscene videos’ involving Prajwal Revanna started making the rounds ahead of the first phase of Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka on April 26, triggering a political slugfest.

A lookout notice against Prajwal Revanna has been issued at all airports in India, along with a Blue Corner notice. A Blue Corner notice issued by Interpol helps countries collect and share information regarding a person's location and their activities as part of a criminal investigation.

Mangaluru: Former MLC Ivan D’Souza on Monday led a delegation to the Passport Seva Kendra in Mangaluru, urging the authorities to provide basic facilities for applicants. D’Souza addressed the media, highlighting the lack of essential amenities at the Mangaluru PSK. “I have requested the authorities to provide basic facilities for people visiting the PSK.

There are no chairs for the convenience of people who arrive at the PSK. They are forced to sit or stand by the side of the road or on footpaths. Additionally, there is no parking facility, no washrooms, and water has not been provided for the public,” the Congress leader stated.

An average of 500 to 600 people from various parts of the state visit the PSK. They have to wait in the scorching heat of the sun, D’Souza mentioned, urging the govt to address these issues promptly. “Officials have agreed to find solutions to the problems faced by the people. Meanwhile, we have also demanded that the PSK be relocated to a more convenient space. We have suggested that the PSK could be moved to the old DC’s office, where there is sufficient space. If our demands are not met, we will hold a protest,” D’Souza explained.

Ashraf Kinara, vice-president of the Dakshina Kannada Waqf Advisory Committee, echoed the sentiment, stating that the authorities should either provide all basic facilities for passport applicants at the PSK or relocate the centre to a better location.
