That was until Monday morning, when a gust of wind took off the top branch of the tree, which fell onto electricity wires, disrupting power supply.
This incident occurred at around 7:30 a.m. when the tree began to fall slowly. A second wind gust at around 8:30 a.m. completely uprooted the tree, said Narayana Rao, a local resident, who witnessed the end of 150-year-old tree.
The tree, which fell on the road, damaged the compound wall of the playground adjacent to Landlinks.
The mighty tree also brought down two electric poles cutting powers to around 750 houses in the vicinity.
Mr Rao said even though fire service officials were informed about the incident, their delay prompted local residents to call private contractors to clear the road. No one was injured in the incident, he added.
