Mangalore, Jun 20: Konkani Writers' Forum, Karnataka has urged Mangalore South MLA to consider only writers of repute to the post of President and members of the Karnataka Konkani Sahithya Academy.
A delegation from the Forum met the MLA and said that over the last several years writers have been cornered in the Academy, which is an injustice to the writers' fraternity.
Henry Mendonca ( H M Pernal, [email protected] ) - President and Marcel D Souza ( Machcha Milar ) General Secretary of Konkani Writers Forum were part of the delegation which called on MLA J R Lobo.
In a letter addressed to MLA J R Lobo the Forum has given a bird's eye view of forum's activities in past 19 years and expressed unhappiness for not considering their representation in Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy.
To stop the injustice on the writers' fraternity, the Forum urged MLA Lobo , while nominating President and Members to Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, the government should consider only writers of repute who have contributed to Konkani literature immensely. The government should also consider only active writers who can devote their time to Academy.
The Forum further urged that, the government should ensure at least two memberships to writer's forum and through Academy it should fund literary programmes conducted by the forum.
MLA Lobo assured the delegation that will look in to the matter on priority basis and see to it that Konkani Writers get justice and their due share in the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya academy.
