He was speaking at a law workshop for journalists organized by Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists' Union at Mangalore Press Club on Saturday.
Journalists and advocates have many aspects in common. In order to succeed in their field, advocates need to constantly study things. In the same way, lack of morality in executing their duty leads to misuse of law's provisions. The same goes with Journalists as well, he said.
Media persons must be careful in reporting court proceedings and confine themselves to providing information as review and analysis of court proceedings and pending judgements could amount to contempt of court. Publishing of obscene content is also illegal but it has become so common that the practice is hardly questioned, he said.
P B Harish Rai, President, DK Working Journalists' Association, welcomed. Ronald Anil Fernandes, Bureau Chief, Deccan Herald, Mangalore, presented introductory remarks. Journalist Venu Vinod introduced the speaker. Ramakrishna, President, Mangalore Press Club, proposed the vote of thanks.
