Speaking to media persons, the Swamiji said that after Delhi and Bangalore, surfacing of an incident of sexual assault in Manipal as well has paved way for a feeling of insecurity for women in the entire country.
Those behind the sexual assault must be punished severely so that a message to sent across to anti social elements, he said.
Besides cloths, morals have also shrinked in today's time and age, which is playing its part in repetitive occurrence of such assaults. Doubts have risen with regard to the efficiency of the police force. In order to bring about a feeling of safety in society, the police must bring the culprits to book as fast as possible, he added.
Eye-opener
While the Delhi gang-rape incident was an eye-opener for the country, a similar attack in our own Manipal has sounded alarm bells for the people of our region, Dr. Gerald Issac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi Diocese, has said.
Such acts are to be condemned in strongest of words. The diocese prays that no such incident occurs in our region again, he has said in a press statement.
Man's indulgence in such a barbaric act keeping aside all his dignity, is a shame for the entire human civilization. There is a need to create awareness in the society against such acts which are caused as a result of neglect of moral values, preaching, education and rules. Manipal is populated with thousands of students from the country and abroad. It is important that an atmosphere of security is created for them, he has said.
