Banglore, Jun 25: A delegation of Welfare Party of India has met Karnataka home minister K J George and exhorted him to give justice to jailed PDP Abdun-Nasar Madani, who had been allegedly fixed by police in two major serial bomb blast cases.

Madani was initially arrested in April 1998 in connection with Coimbatore serial blasts case. Police had called him as him as the mastermind of bomb blasts occurred on February 14, 1998, during BJP leader LK Advani's visit to address poll rallies. After spending nearly a decade in jail, he had been released on August 1, 2007, following his acquittal by a special court. However, he was once again arrested by Karnataka police in August 2010 in connection with 2008 Bangalore serial blasts. Madani's supporters believe that he was fixed by Karnataka police in Bangalore blast case during BJP rule for political reasons.

The WPI delegation led by its vice-president Dr B T Lalitha Naik brought to the notice of the home minister that due to police atrocity Madani was suffering from multiple diseases such as chronic diabetics and cervical spondulosis. With vision power of one eye fully lost, the other one is 80% affected. He had also lost one of his legs in a bomb attack in 1992 allegedly by RSS.

The delegation also alleged that many of his diseases aggravated and health condition deteriorated in Parappana Agrahara as he was denied proper health care. Moreover, his treatment expense at the Soukhya Hospital, where he was admitted for a short period, was met, not by the Karnataka government but by his family and friends.

The delegation also reminded the home minister that people of the state expected much from the Siddaramaiah led government, which came to power after several years of BJP rule in Karnataka.

The government should take necessary steps to provide all treatments to Madani and give bail on humanitarian grounds besides speeding up the trial by setting up a fast track court and to conduct the trial in an open court.

Mr George assured the delegation to look into the demand for bail to Mr Madani.

P.C. Hamza, WPI national General Secretary, Akbar Ali Udupi, WPI Karnataka State President were also present in the delegation.

Mangaluru, Dec 7: A 34-year-old fruit and vegetable trader in Mangaluru has reportedly lost ₹33.1 lakh after falling victim to an online investment scam run through a fake mobile app.

Police said the scam began in September, when the victim received a link on Facebook. Clicking it connected him to a WhatsApp number, where an unidentified person introduced a high-return investment scheme and instructed him to download an app.

To build trust, the fraudster asked him to invest ₹30,000 on September 24. The trader soon received ₹34,000 as “profit,” convincing him the scheme was genuine. Over the next two months, he transferred money in multiple instalments via Google Pay and IMPS to different scanner codes and bank accounts shared by the scammers. Between September 24 and December 3, he ended up sending a total of ₹33.1 lakh.

When he later requested a refund of his investment and promised returns, the scammers demanded additional payments, claiming he needed to pay a “service tax” first. Even after he paid a small amount, no money was returned, and the scammers continued pressuring him for more.

A case has been registered at the CEN Crime Police Station.

Mangaluru: Public transport in Mangaluru is set for a state-led transformation as the government moves to deploy 100 new electric govt buses to replace unreliable private services. The initiative aims to provide a dependable alternative to private operators who have been frequently "cutting trips," leaving thousands of commuters stranded.

The announcement was made by Deputy Commissioner and MCC Administrator Darshan HV during a public phone-in session. The move specifically targets routes where private bus service has become erratic, ensuring that citizens no longer have to rely on a fluctuating private sector for their daily commute.

Restoring the Govt Presence

The transport crisis was brought to the forefront by Ramayya, a resident of Bajal, who highlighted a growing trend of private buses skipping morning and night trips. With the previous KSRTC (govt) services discontinued, residents have been left without a fallback option.

To fix this, the DC confirmed that the PM-eBus Sewa Scheme will bring 100 government-owned electric buses to the city:

•    Phased Deployment: The first 50 of the new 100 government buses are scheduled to arrive by March 2026.

•    State Infrastructure: Two new government depots, including one at Mudipu, are being prepared for operations.

•    Recruitment: The state has already begun training a new batch of government bus drivers to ensure the fleet is operational the moment it arrives.

Mangaluru: In a significant step to curb online hate and intimidation, Mangaluru City Police have registered a suo motu case against multiple Instagram accounts accused of circulating alleged provocative and threatening content.

While monitoring social media activity on Tuesday, Kankanady Town PSI Anitha Nikkam identified the Instagram handle ‘team_targetttt_900’ for posting a hate message alongside images of lethal weapons. Another account, ‘team_nagara_900’, allegedly shared a threatening post targeting activist Bharath Kumdelu, tagging additional pages such as KARAVALI-OFFICIAL.

Several other accounts — including ‘immu_bhai.fan’, ‘target_boy_900’, ‘kings_of_manglore’, ‘team_target_boys.900’, ‘arshad_mangalore’, ‘target_ka19_ullal’, ‘team_target__’, ‘troll_tigersz_900’, ‘tr_group_900’, and ‘team_target_900’ — are also under scrutiny for spreading similar inflammatory material, police said.

Authorities have urged citizens, especially young social media users, to report suspicious pages and avoid engaging with groups that glorify violence or threaten individuals. Online hate can quickly escalate into real-world harm, and police stress that sharing or promoting such content can attract legal consequences.
