Mangalore, Jun 28: Dr Siddalingappa S Kumbar who was working as a deputy librarian in Mangalore University committed suicide on Wednesday by hanging himself in an isolated area within the campus limits. He was 46.

Dr Kumbar hails from Bijapur and couple of months ago, he had been to his native place along with his wife Revamma and children to see his sister who was ailing. After a few days Dr Kumbar returned to Konaje with his kids while his wife stayed back in the village.
When his sister died, Dr Kumbar could not visit the native place to take part in the last rites because of the academic commitments of his children.
Revamma in her complaint has cited this as a reason for his suicide. “He must have been depressed due to the same and must have ended his life,” Revamma said in her complaint. Revamma was back in Konaje on Wednesday when the kids informed about Dr Kumbar going missing.
Last rites of Dr Kumbar will be performed in his native place once the post mortem procedures are completed.
Dr Kumbar worked as an assistant librarian from 1991 to 2007 and was promoted as deputy librarian in 2007.
He had secured first rank from Dharwad University in PG Library and Information Science. He later bagged a Ph.D from Mangalore University.
