
Udupi/Mangalore, Jul 3: Rains have intensified in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district again and on Monday several rain tragedies took place in different parts of undivided Dakshina Kannada.
A youth got washed away in gushing rain water at Sullia. Meanwhile, a young school kid who got into a stream to have bath at Brahmavar drowned. Vijay Kumar (14) from Honnavara has been living at Pre-Matriculation Students' hostel for Backward classes at Kuradi as he is pursuing his 9th standard education here. On Monday he had been to a stream along with his friends to have bath. Unfortunately he was washed away in the stream. Despite the local residents initiating a search operation, no traces of Vijay Kumar were found. A case has been registered with Brahmavar police.
Sullia death
A youth was washed away in gushing water at Ajjawara in Sullia taluk on Monday as rains intensified here. The deceased is Dayananda (29) son of Sadashiva Rao.
The incident took place when Dayananda was returning to his home in Mullya from Sullia. His death body was recovered from the same stream on Tuesday morning.
Nethravati level rises
Due to the heavy rainfall on Monday and Tuesday, the water level in river Nethravathi has increased drastically.
