Mangalore, Jul 8: Minister for Fisheries and Youth Services Abhyayachandra Jain has proclaimed his objection for the establishment of Niddodi Thermal power plant.
“I was the first elected representative to oppose this project. I still hold on to my decision,” said Mr Jain addressing reporters after inaugurating government programme at Kemral.
In 2011, Shettar Government submitted a proposal to the centre with regard to setting up of a thermal plant at Niddodi on 200 acre of government land belonging to forest department.
“The proposal was sent on the basis of the information given by the officials. Neither former CM Jagadish Shettar nor the present CM Siddaramaiah have been briefed about the realities of the region,” he said adding that the people are opposing the project and he will stand by the people.
Basadi theft
With regard to the Moodabidri Basadi theft issue, Mr Jain said that the police department has promised to take appropriate steps in the direction of nabbing the culprits. “It will be incorrect to interfere in their job,” he said calling the theft as a warning call for the entire community.
He called upon the community to cut down on their lavish expenditure and come together to appoint adequate numbers of watchmen for the Basadi. He also requested the police department to provide security to the ancient Jaina statues in the Basadi.
