Mangalore, Aug 16: Sudatta Jain of Akhila Bharata Karmika Sangha plans to commence an indefinite hunger strike yet again, demanding facilities and security for labourers and beedi workers of Dakshina Kannada district under Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC).
Addressing mediapersons at a press conference here on Friday, he said that he would undertake a padayatra at 10 a.m. on Monday from District Commissioner's office to ESI Hospital located at Kadri-Shivbagh, and begin his fast after reaching the venue.
Among his various conditions, he has demanded that the administration of the ESI Hospital in Mangalore be taken over by Central government. He has also demanded that beedi workers in the district be provided with medical treatment at ESI Hospital until provisions are made for a separate hospital for them.
He said that his fast was also against the government's failure at bringing workers in different village-level factories and establishments under the Minimum Wages Act, 1948.
