Mangalore, Aug 25: At the monthly SC/ST grievance meeting held at Police Commissioner's office in the city on Sunday, a Dalit representative Shridhar alleged that a person named Suresh Poojary had encroached a part of the land allotted to the Dalit community by the government.
Mr Shridhar alleged that Suresh Poojary had provided forged documents which showed that land under survey 101/3 in Derebail village in Mangalore taluk, belonged to him.
The land records show that Suresh, a builder, has illegally encroached 20 cents of land each belonging to Ramu and Akku who are both Dalits. However, the Record of Rights, Tenancy and Crop Inspection (RTC) made on July 6, 2013 has been forged, he alleged, urging that suitable legal action be taken against the accused Suresh.
To this, Commissioner of Police Manish Kharbikar instructed him to lodge a specific complaint of forgery of official documents at the concerned police station.
A case came to light at the meeting, wherein Sumitra Umesh, a resident of Konaje, expressed her grievance that her family faced harassment from few neighbours, who had now resorted to contaminating the drinking water in their water tank.
“My family faces threats from particular persons living in the vicinity, especially my son. Despite having lodged several complaints from the past two years at the Konaje police station, no strong action has been taken in this regard, although we have already filed an atrocity case against case,” she claimed.
Naming Shridhar and Harish Poojary as those who threatened them, she said that they found several types of waste dumped in their water tank, including rotten snakes.
The Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner of Police M Muthuraya promised strict action in this regard.
In the Bajpe landslide case, a Dalit leader requested that an atrocity case should also be registered (along with the existing criminal case) against the owner of the encroached land since four Dalits were killed in the mishap.
