
It is learnt that on Tuesday night two Kerala state police officers had taken Nagaraj Balegar from Thrissur of Kerala in a train to Udupi to produce before the Court in connection to a particular case.
Train reached Udupi at mid night and hence the police decided to stay over in the railway station. On Wednesday morning, when the police made him walk his way from station on the Indrali route, he knocked the policemen and managed to escape with handcuffs on.
Nagaraja Balegar is a resident of Baikady of Brahmavar and has cases in various police stations of undivided Dakshina Kannada. He is wanted in as many as 25 cases in Kerala and Karnataka state.
Nagaraj, had once bitten the hands of Puttur ASI Rama Nayak, splashed chilly powder into his eyes and escaped, when he was being taken to Hubli Court. Later he was caught by public.
Recently he escaped from Hubli jail too.
His brother Muthappa is also a rowdy-sheeter, involved in Vinod Shetty's murder at Hiriyadka jail on 14 January 2011.
