The kid was rescued from a residence at Ajjibettu in B C Road, after the Childline received a call stating that a child evidently below 10 years of age was being ill-treated at a home in Ajjibettu.
It was found that the child was employed at the residence of Kadri Traffic police station constable Mr Eeru Nayak and his wife Village Accountant Jyoti Bai.
Hailing from Bellary, the child named Manisha (name changed) was brought to Ajjibettu to take care of the couple's one and half year old child. Manisha is made to do other odd jobs of the house as well.
When the officials raided the house, Manisha and the toddler were there at home without supervision of any elder, which was shocking.
When the police tried to contact the couple, they refused to respond positively.
Later Mr Eeru Nayak was called to the spot and his statement was recorded, after it was established that Manisha was a minor.
The child was produced before Child Welfare Committee Chairperson Asha Nayak. Arrangements will be made to provide education to the child.
Childline director Renni d'Souza, Labour Inspector Prasanna Kumar among others were present.
