Mangalore, Sep 11: The grand Ganeshothsava festival in Mangalore organised by various groups culminated on the third day with grand immersion of the Ganesh idols.
Ganesh idols installed at various places were taken in an elaborate procession from various points. Devotees in large numbers joined the procession, singing and dancing in gaiety.
The Ganesh idol from Omakar Nagar was taken out in a procession lead by thousands of devotees. It passed through main roads of the city including PVS circle and Car Street before immersion.
The procession did not just have devotees, but tableaux added to the sheen of the festival. Several tableaux depicting episodes from pages of mythology left the onlookers spellbound.
Groups of devotees even sang Bhajans in praise of Ganesha.
Traffic jam
The city police made elaborate security arrangements to ensure peace during the procession.
The traffic movement was restricted and parking was banned on some major roads in the City for several hours in the evening due to the procession and regular passengers had to wait in bus stands for hours together to reach their homes.
Due to diversion in traffic some of the city roads were packed with heavy traffic and roads were blocked.
