Mangalore, Sep 12: In order to create a garbage-free environment and bring awareness on the importance of hygiene and educating people not to throw garbage on the streets, few associations have decided to launch'Movement for Clean, Beautiful Valencia' in three stages under the leadership of Clean and Beautiful Valencia Movement Committee and Valencia Church, said co-ordinator of the movement Arunraj Rodrigues.
Speaking at a press conference here on Wednesday, he said that street plays would be held on Thursday, Friday and Saturday in Nandigudda, Jeppu, Valencia, Kankanady, Pumpwell, Ujjodi, Gorigudda, Ekkur and Sutarpete to create awareness and educating people on keeping their surroundings free from garbage.
On Sunday, a walk for'Clean, beautiful Valencia' will be held at 8 a.m. from Gerosa School in Jeppu towards Valencia Church en route Valencia circle, Kankanady circle, Old Pumpwell road, Ujjodi and Gorigudda.
On September 22, several voluntary groups, associations and youth organisations will come together to clean all the wards of Valencia and collect road-side garbage in groups, he said.
Parish priest of Valencia Church Fr Bonaventure Nazareth, social worker A Hameed Kandak, corporator Appi and resident of Valencia Louis J Pinto were present.
