
While independent houses received two dustbins each- to segregate organic and inorganic waste, apartments were given with two large sized dustbins costing Rs 4,500 each.
MLA, Mangalore North Constituency J R Lobo launching the programme said that public must co-operate with the MCC for the success of this programme, which aims at tackling one of the major problems of the Corporation- segregation of waste.
MCC Council Member A C Vinayraj said that too much dependence on plastic is creating havoc on environment. “Government and officials cannot do anything in this regard unless and until public decide to stop using plastic,” he said.
K Ajith Hegde, Commissioner, MCC briefing about the pilot project said, “each bin costs Rs 150 and the MCC will bear the total cost of Rs 31 lakh for two wards.”
