At about 3 a.m. on Saturday thieves entered the cow-shed and took away a cow belonging to Vasanthi Giriyappa Idya. Around 4 am, the family members discovered that the cattle was missing and with this, they immediately brought the matter to the notice of the police, who initiated 'Nakabandi' at several routes.
Meanwhile, people who were transporting a cattle to slaughter house left the vehicle and the cow at Katipalla on seeing a police vehicle approaching them.
The thieves had not just stolen the animal but had inhumanly beaten it too. The wounds and bruises on the body of the animal suggested how the thieves had treated it. The shackles around its leg had torn the skin around the leg, which was bleeding profusely.
Condemning the theft of the cattle in Idya area and seeing the plight of one of the stolen cattle, the residents staged a protest outside the police station and expressed disappointment over police inaction in nabbing the culprits.
The local residents, citing the incident of cattle theft from the residence of Mahadevi, where the miscreants had threatened the members of family showing weapons, said that though the case happened two months ago, nothing substantial has been achieved by the police.
MCC Member Ashok Shetty, leader from Hindu outfit Sathyajith Surathkal among others were present.
