
Mangalore, Sep 25: Members of Dakshina Kannada unit of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) on Monday carried out demonstration in front of Deputy Commissioner's office, Mangalore urging the state and central government to speed up the process to set up University named after in Tipu Sultan.
Providing scholarship for students of minority community and elimination of minister for higher education R V Deshpande from cabinet for opposing university the proposed University were the other demands.
Addressing the protesters Dastagir Ibrahim Aga of IUML national committee demanded government to start University in Tipu Sultan's name.
He said, “What statement higher education R V Deshpande had given on varsity is going to damage the Congress in coming days. During election congress party men promised of varsity and after coming to power in state, Deshpande said no for varsity. This is not tolerable by the community. The state government should start university at the earliest”, he urged.
State Vice-President of IUML, Ahmed Jamal said that the Congress government in state is misusing Muslim community. It makes umpteen promises when elections are around but then fails to fulfill the promises made.
“The state government spoke of acting against those who spoil communal harmony but so far it has not taken any move. It shows that it is indirectly supporting those acts," he stated.
Protesters handed over a memorandum to the Chief Minister through Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada.
