
Mangalore, Sep 29: Mangaloreans in large numbers took part in the 'World Heart Day Run-2013' organised on Sunday. The event organised by KMC hospital had several participants running from Dr T M A Pai Convention Centre to Dr B R Ambedkar Circle. While the run organised by Nitte had participants covering several main streets of Mangalore.
Participating in the run, Minister for Health and Family Welfare, UT Khader said that people must be aware of cardiac diseases and should try to be fit. "Regular workout will keep them fit and healthy”, he suggested. “Government is going to introduce heart check-up facility in government hospitals for people above 3 years”, he said.
MLA, Mangalore South Constituency, J R Lobo participating in run speaking at the formal gathering said that heart disease is a major challenge. He said that running on one particular day will not do good. Workout should be made a part of everyone's life so as to stay healthy," he said.
Secretary of Karnataka State Cricket association, Vijay Bharadwaj formally inaugurated the run in presence of international athlete Shiny Abraham and Sahana Kumari.
