DYFI members demand standardisation of food rates in hotels

October 1, 2013

Mangalore, Oct 1: Members of Urwa Store unit of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) held a protest near Urwa Store junction here on Monday, demanding the standardisation of prices in all the hotels across the district.

Addressing the protestors, DYFI Mangalore city president Imthiyaz said that prices of food items had been hiked to unfair levels even in middle-class hotels across the city, which was causing trouble to common people on a daily basis. The food prices have been hiked to preposterous rates in middle-class hotels where a common man cannot afford to have his daily meals anymore. By raising the food prices, the hotel owners are fleecing the common people, and the government remains unfazed by this, he said.

He demanded that the state government should start government hotels similar to the likes of those in Kerala and Tamil Nadu, where meals are provided on a daily basis at low and uniform rates.

Urging the district administration to bring uniformity in the rates in hotels, the protestors demanded regulation of rates in hotels and a solution to the problem.

DYFI Mangalore city secretary Santhosh Bajal, Sunanda Konchady, Manoj Kumar and others participated in the protest.

It is extremely important that you take Levitra exactly as your doctor prescribes. Be very careful not to take bigger or smaller amounts or administer the drug for a longer time than recommended and follow the directions given on the prescription label. Your doctor may decide to change the Levitra dosage occasionally in order to ensure that you reap maximum benefit from using the drug.

You should take each dosage of the drug with one filled glass of water. Levitra can be administered with or without food. Usually, the drug is taken only when it is required, that is, about an hour before the commencement of sexual activity. An erection however will not occur simply by taking the pill and hence you must pay special attention to your doctor’s instructions.

Be careful not to take Levitra more than once every 24 hours and allow at least one day between consecutive dosages. Should your erection be painful or last for a prolonged period of time (beyond 4 hours) you should get medical attention immediately. Prolonged erection, also known as priapism, can end up damaging the penis.

Mangaluru, Dec 3: A group of Congress workers gathered at the Mangaluru International Airport on Wednesday to welcome AICC general secretary K C Venugopal, but the reception quickly turned into a display of support for Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar.

Venugopal arrived in the city to participate in the centenary commemoration of the historic dialogue between Mahatma Gandhi and Narayana Guru. The event, organised by the Sivagiri Mutt, Varkala, in association with the Mangalore University Sri Narayana Guru Study Chair, is being held on the university’s Konaje campus.

KPCC general secretary Mithun Rai and several party workers had assembled at the airport to receive Venugopal. However, the moment he stepped out, workers began raising slogans backing Shivakumar.

The university programme will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

This show of support comes just a day after Siddaramaiah remarked that Shivakumar would lead the government “when the high command decides.” The chief minister made the comment after a breakfast meeting at Shivakumar’s residence—another public display of camaraderie between the two leaders amid ongoing attempts by the party high command to downplay their leadership rivalry.

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Air India Express has announced that it will resume direct flight services between Mangaluru and Muscat from March 2026, restoring an important international air link for passengers from the coastal region.

Airport authorities said the service will operate twice a week—on Sundays and Tuesdays—from March 1. The initial flights are scheduled on March 3, 8 and 10, followed by March 15 and 17, with the same operating pattern to continue thereafter. The flight duration is approximately three hours and 25 minutes.

The Mangaluru–Muscat route was earlier operated under the 2025 summer schedule, with services beginning on July 14. At that time, Air India Express had operated four flights a week before suspending the service.

Officials said the summer schedule will come into effect from March 29, after which changes in flight timings and departure schedules from Mangaluru are expected. Passengers have been advised to check the latest schedules while planning their travel.

The resumption of direct flights to Muscat is expected to significantly benefit expatriates, business travellers and others, further strengthening Mangaluru’s air connectivity with the Gulf region.
