
The exhibition featured over 70 sketches and paintings by various artists such as Surya Achar Vittla (dot painting sketches), Anil Devadiga, Dinesh Holla, Syed Asif Ali, Harish Kodialbail, A S Jeevan, Permude Mohan Kumar, Rajendra Kedige, Reshma Shetty, Santhosh Andrade and Veena Srinivas.
Lions Governor of District 317D K C Prabhu inaugurated the Gandhi Jayanthi programme and the painting exhibition.
Speaking on the occasion, former-chief security officer of Manipal Group Col Prem Kumar Shetty said that teachings of Mahatma Gandhi were relevant in the society even today. "Doing our job on the lines of preachings of Gandhiji is the best way to show our patriotism for this country," he said, urging everyone to pledge to perform their jobs with sincerity, thereby fulfilling their duty to the nation.
Speaking about the patriotism of the soldiers who served the country, he said that soldiers faced long months of hardships along the frontiers, which took its toll on the soldiers. However, they continue to protect the frontiers in honour of their duty, their regiment and their country, he said.
President of Karavali Chitrakala Chavadi Vishnu Shevgoor also spoke on the occasion.
Reputed artists Prashanth Shetty (Chitra Mitra) from Mumbai and Harishchandra Shetty (Harini) from Mangalore shared their experiences with the audience.
Lions District cultural co-ordinator Jnaneshwari S Joshi presided over the programme. Office-bearers of Lions Club International were present during the event.
