
Mangalore, Oct 3: A group of residents took out a procession from Bikarnakatta to Nanthoor Circle here on Thursday to protest against the delay in completion of the Nanthoor circle and road construction work on the NH-13 by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
They marked day long hunger strike in Nantoor circle.
Residents said that the NHAI should have completed the work by the end of year 2011. But it has failed to complete the Nanthoor circle and showed technical reasons in failure.
Delay in work is posing problem to many residents and road users. It is also resulting in traffic congestion.
AG Sharma, resident of Nanthoor addressing the protesters in Nanthoor circle said, “Unless we react the NHAI will not complete the work. The number of asthma patients are increasing in Nanthoor area because of the dust. Due to the cacophony here, number of accidents here too have increased," he said
Eric Ozerio, Gurkar Mand Sobhan who joined protest on his way to Kalangan showing solidarity to the demands of the residents said that it was important to draw the attention of the authorities towards the problems persisting here.
