Uppinangady, Oct 4: Two women who came in the guise of customers wanting to exchange gold ornament, conned a jeweler and exchanged their imitation jewelry for a genuine gold jewelry weighing 40 gms, from a shop in Uppinangady, on Thursday.
At about 11.30 am, two women reportedly from Tamilnadu had come to Sri Hari jewelers near bus stand in Uppinangady.
The women said that they had bought a necklace weighing over 40 gms for their daughter's wedding which they wanted to exchange.
The proprietor Ganesh Bhat tested the ornament brought by them and agreed to exchange it.
The women who disagreed to the deal that Mr Bhat was offering walked out of the shop. However, they soon returned and shop and gave their ornament and paid an additional Rs 500 and bought the genuine gold necklace from the shop.
Suspicious over their behaviour, Mr Bhat tested the ornament again only to discover that the ornament was artificial. The women had earlier shown him an original necklace, which he tested and agreed for exchange. But, when the duo left the shop, they returned with an imitation jewelery and exchanged it and bought original gold necklace for just Rs 500!
However, by the time Mr Bhat could track the women, they had fled the scene.
The clippings of both women have been recorded in the CCTV camera installed in the shop, which will be of great help.
Case has been registered at Uppinangady police station.
