Saudi Arabia to celebrate Eid on Oct 15; Mangalore, Udupi on Oct 16

Mangalore/Makkah, Oct 8: Coastal districts of Karnataka will be celebrating Eid-ul-Adha on October 16, while Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and few other gulf countries will be celebrating the festival of sacrifice on October 15.

Mangalore Khazi Twaqa Ahmed Musliar and Udupi Khazi Ibrahim Musliar Bekl have formally announced that the festival will be celebrated on October 16 in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.

According to reports, Dhul Hijjah moon was sighted in the region in the intervening night of last Sunday and Monday.

In Saudi Arabia the crescent moon was sighted in the previous night and hence Arafat Day will be marked on October 14. Eid-ul-Adha will be celebrated on the following day.

9-day holidays for UAE govt. staff

Meanwhile the UAE Cabinet has decided that the Eid-ul-Adha holidays for the government sector will be from Sunday 13 October to Saturday 19 October. Work will resume on Sunday 20 October. With October 11 and 12 being Friday and Saturday, the total holiday period will be nine days, according to a circular issued by Humaid Mohamed Al Qutami, Minister of Education, in his capacity as Chairman of the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources.

Employees of private companies will have three days holiday from Monday 14 October to Wednesday 16 October for Eid, the circular said.
