President of AKMT Hameed Kandak, addressing mediapersons here, said that some vested interests were trying to disrupt the communal harmony in the district by unnecessarily attacking minorities. The district administration has to take precautionary measures to maintain peace and communal harmony in Dakshina Kannada, ahead of Bakrid festival, he urged.
He also urged the district administration to regulate banners, posters and hoardings in the district which might instigate communal clashes. Even rallies and public meetings in public places have to be restricted and the law has to be made stringent, he said.
In the backdrop of communal tension in the district, there is a need of stricter laws to check communal clashes. Even illegal cattle traffickers and slaughterers have to be punished, he added.
Seeking protection for the Muslim community and to maintai peace during Bakrid, Hameed Kankad said, “To distribute meat to poor families, animals will be slaughtered and Muslims need protection to distribute meat as a part of the festivities.”
