Belthangady, Oct 12: Shaanya, a four and half year old girl child born with physical deformations induced by Endosufan has died.

Born to Gopal Poojary and Rathnavati couple, of Shirlali, she had major physical infirmities, below abdomen.

The couple has an older child named Maanya, who too is a disabled girl. This seven-year-old child has not grown according to her age, both physically and mentally.

For their mother Rathnavati, endo induced pangs is not new at all. Hailing from Kokkada, an area largely affected by Endosulfan, Rathnavati had seen the ogress called endosulfan eat away the region gradually.

But, this time crisis hit her own life. While Rathnavati dared to give birth to her children and accept the fact that both can never lead a normal life, her older sister who was given in marriage to a man from Shibaje conceived twice and the medical reports showed that both the kids had physical deformities, following which she medically terminated both pregnancies.

One of Rathnavati's cousins who was given in marriage to a person from Udane too has a daughter who is born disabled.

Now that Shaanya is no more, the pained couple live with their deformed child Maanya, along with the memories of the lost paradise.

All in all endosulfan has hijacked happiness of several families and Rathnavati's family is just one of them.
